Indications:
Used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and heart failure. It helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.
Pharmacology:
Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that relaxes blood vessels by blocking the action of angiotensin II, lowering blood pressure and improving blood flow.
Dosage:
Typically 20mg to 320mg daily depending on condition severity and doctor's advice.
Administration:
Orally, with or without food, usually once or twice daily.
Interaction:
May interact with diuretics, ACE inhibitors, NSAIDs, potassium supplements, and lithium. Inform your doctor about all medications.
Contraindications:
Not to be used in pregnancy, breastfeeding, or patients with known hypersensitivity to valsartan or similar drugs.
Side Effects:
Dizziness, headache, fatigue, low blood pressure, kidney function changes, cough (less common).
