Indications:
ROXIM S 30ML is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible microorganisms, including:
Respiratory tract infections: pneumonia, acute and chronic bronchitis
Ear, nose, and throat infections: otitis media, sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis
Urinary tract infections: uncomplicated urinary tract infections
Skin and soft tissue infections
Uncomplicated gonorrhea (cervical/urethral)
Pharmacology:
Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. It is effective against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
Dosage:
Children (6 months and older): 8 mg/kg/day, administered as a single dose or in two divided doses.
6–11 kg: 25 mg every 12 hours
12–23 kg: 50 mg every 12 hours
24–40 kg: 100 mg every 12 hours
Administration:
Administer orally, with or without food. Shake the suspension well before use.
Interaction:
Cefixime may interact with carbamazepine, increasing its plasma concentration. Concurrent use with anticoagulants like warfarin may prolong prothrombin time.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Cefixime or other cephalosporin antibiotics
Side Effects:
Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, and rash. Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions and pseudomembranous colitis may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
The safety of Cefixime during pregnancy has not been established. It is excreted in small amounts in breast milk but is not known to cause adverse effects in nursing infants. Use during pregnancy and lactation should be based on a physician's recommendation.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis.
Adjust dose in severe renal impairment.
