FACID 250MG Tablet is indicated for the treatment of:
Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, such as cellulitis, impetigo, and infected wounds.
Bone and Joint Infections: Osteomyelitis and septic arthritis caused by susceptible bacteria.
Endocarditis: As part of the treatment for bacterial endocarditis.
Other Staphylococcal Infections: As prescribed by a physician.
Fusidic Acid works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, specifically targeting elongation factor G (EF-G). This mechanism is highly effective against gram-positive organisms, especially Staphylococcus species, and minimizes resistance development when used appropriately.
Dosage:
Adults: 500mg (2 tablets) 2-3 times daily.
Children: Dosage is weight-based; consult a physician.
Administration: Take orally with water. May be taken with or without food.
May interact with statins, increasing the risk of muscle toxicity (myopathy).
Concomitant use with other antibiotics should be monitored for synergistic or antagonistic effects.
Hypersensitivity to Fusidic Acid or any excipients in the tablet.
Severe liver impairment without careful medical supervision.
Common: Nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and headache.
Rare: Jaundice, liver enzyme elevation, or allergic reactions.
Pregnancy: Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a healthcare provider.
Lactation: Use with caution as Fusidic Acid is excreted in breast milk.
Monitor liver function during prolonged use.
Use cautiously in patients with a history of liver disease.
Avoid abrupt discontinuation to prevent bacterial resistance.
Oral Antibiotic.
