Indications:
KEFUCLAV 250MG Tablet is indicated for the treatment of:
Respiratory tract infections (e.g., pneumonia, bronchitis).
Skin and soft tissue infections.
Urinary tract infections.
Otitis media (middle ear infection).
Sinusitis and other bacterial infections.
Pharmacology:
Cefuroxime is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that enhances cefuroxime’s effectiveness against beta-lactamase producing bacteria.
Dosage:
Adults: 250 mg to 500 mg twice daily as directed by the physician.
Pediatric dosage is based on body weight and severity of infection.
Administration:
Take orally after meals to enhance absorption and reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Interaction:
May interact with anticoagulants, increasing the risk of bleeding.
Reduced efficacy with simultaneous use of antacids or proton pump inhibitors.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins, penicillins, or any other component of the formulation.
Severe liver or kidney impairment without physician guidance.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, and rash. Rarely, allergic reactions or Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Can be used during pregnancy if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician.
Excreted in breast milk; caution advised during lactation.
Precautions & Warnings:
Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed to prevent resistance.
Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal diseases, especially colitis.
