Indications

FLUCLOXIN 250MG Capsule is indicated for the treatment of:

  • Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Boils, abscesses, cellulitis, and impetigo.

  • Bone and Joint Infections: Osteomyelitis and septic arthritis.

  • Respiratory Tract Infections: Pneumonia, bronchitis, and lung abscess.

  • Endocarditis: Infection of the heart lining caused by gram-positive bacteria.

Pharmacology

Flucloxacillin is a narrow-spectrum penicillin-class antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It is effective against beta-lactamase-producing gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus.

Dosage and Administration

  • Dosage:

    • Adults: 250-500mg 4 times daily.

    • Children: 25-50mg/kg body weight daily, divided into 4 doses.

  • Administration: Take on an empty stomach, 30 minutes before or 2 hours after meals.

Interaction

  • Reduced Effectiveness: With bacteriostatic antibiotics like tetracyclines.

  • Potential Interaction: With oral contraceptives, reducing their effectiveness.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to penicillins or beta-lactam antibiotics.

  • Severe hepatic impairment.
