Indications:
Ceflon PD 15ML Drop is indicated for:
Respiratory tract infections, including pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and bronchitis
Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
Skin and soft tissue infections
Otitis media and sinusitis
Pharmacology:
Cefpodoxime Proxetil is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which leads to bacterial cell death. It is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
Dosage and Administration:
Dosage for children: 8 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 12 hours or as prescribed by the physician.
Shake the bottle well before use. Administer with food to enhance absorption.
Use the provided dropper for accurate dosing.
Interaction:
May interact with antacids containing aluminum or magnesium, reducing absorption.
Concomitant use with diuretics may increase the risk of nephrotoxicity.
Probenecid may increase cefpodoxime serum levels.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Cefpodoxime or other cephalosporin antibiotics.
History of severe allergic reaction to penicillins.
Side Effects:
Common: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain.
Rare: Rash, pruritus, headache, and dizziness.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Cefpodoxime is generally safe during pregnancy but should be used only if clearly needed.
Use during lactation is not recommended unless advised by a physician.
Precautions & Warnings:
Caution in patients with a history of penicillin allergy due to cross-reactivity.
Monitor renal function in children with renal impairment.
Prolonged use may lead to superinfection with resistant organisms.
