Indications:
Ceflon PD 15ML Drop is indicated for:

  • Respiratory tract infections, including pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and bronchitis

  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

  • Skin and soft tissue infections

  • Otitis media and sinusitis

Pharmacology:
Cefpodoxime Proxetil is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which leads to bacterial cell death. It is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Dosage for children: 8 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 12 hours or as prescribed by the physician.

  • Shake the bottle well before use. Administer with food to enhance absorption.

  • Use the provided dropper for accurate dosing.

Interaction:

  • May interact with antacids containing aluminum or magnesium, reducing absorption.

  • Concomitant use with diuretics may increase the risk of nephrotoxicity.

  • Probenecid may increase cefpodoxime serum levels.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to Cefpodoxime or other cephalosporin antibiotics.

  • History of severe allergic reaction to penicillins.

Side Effects:

  • Common: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain.

  • Rare: Rash, pruritus, headache, and dizziness.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

  • Cefpodoxime is generally safe during pregnancy but should be used only if clearly needed.

  • Use during lactation is not recommended unless advised by a physician.

Precautions & Warnings:

  • Caution in patients with a history of penicillin allergy due to cross-reactivity.

  • Monitor renal function in children with renal impairment.

  • Prolonged use may lead to superinfection with resistant organisms.
