Indications:
Used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control when diet and exercise alone are insufficient.
Pharmacology:
Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity. Glimepiride stimulates pancreatic beta cells to increase insulin secretion.
Dosage:
Dose varies based on patient condition; commonly one tablet daily or as prescribed by physician.
Administration:
Orally, with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.
Interaction:
May interact with other antidiabetics, diuretics, corticosteroids, and certain blood pressure medicines. Inform your doctor about all medications.
Contraindications:
Not suitable for type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe renal or hepatic impairment, and known hypersensitivity.
Side Effects:
Hypoglycemia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, weight gain, rarely lactic acidosis.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed; consult doctor before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor blood glucose regularly. Use caution in renal impairment. Avoid excessive alcohol intake.
