Indications:
PHYTOCAL D is indicated for the treatment and prevention of calcium and Vitamin D3 deficiencies. It is used in conditions like osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, pregnancy, lactation, and elderly bone health maintenance.
Pharmacology:
Calcium is essential for proper functioning of nerves, cells, muscle, and bone. If there is not enough calcium in the blood, the body takes calcium from bones, weakening them. Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) enhances calcium absorption in the intestine and maintains adequate serum calcium and phosphate levels.
Dosage:
1–2 tablets daily or as directed by a physician. Dosage may vary based on individual calcium needs.
Administration:
Take orally after meals with water. Do not exceed the recommended dose unless prescribed.
Interaction:
May interact with tetracycline antibiotics, bisphosphonates, and thyroid medications. Avoid taking with iron or high-fiber foods that can impair calcium absorption.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to any ingredient, hypercalcemia, severe renal impairment, or conditions associated with hypervitaminosis D.
Side Effects:
Generally well-tolerated. Occasionally causes constipation, bloating, or hypercalcemia with overuse.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Safe to use during pregnancy and lactation when recommended by a doctor. It helps meet increased calcium needs in these conditions.
Precautions & Warnings:
Patients with kidney stones, cardiac diseases, or taking other vitamin/mineral supplements should consult a doctor before use.
