Pharmacology:
Duloxetine, the active ingredient, is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) that enhances the activity of these neurotransmitters in the brain. This action helps in improving mood, alleviating anxiety, and interrupting pain signal transmission.
Dosage and Administration:
Dosage:
Depression: 60 mg once daily, adjusted based on patient response
Anxiety or neuropathic pain: Start with 30 mg, increase to 60 mg if needed
Administration:
Take orally, with or without food.
Swallow the tablet whole without crushing or chewing.
Interaction:
Avoid combining with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) to prevent serotonin syndrome.
Increased sedation with alcohol or other CNS depressants.
Potential interaction with anticoagulants, increasing bleeding risks.
