Indications:

  • Cough with mucus: Relieves productive cough by thinning mucus.

  • Nasal congestion: Eases nasal blockage for better breathing.

  • Allergy symptoms: Alleviates sneezing, runny nose, and itchy eyes.

  • Restful sleep: Helps in improving sleep quality during illness.

Pharmacology:

  • Guaifenesin: An expectorant that reduces the viscosity of tenacious sputum, making it easier to cough up.

  • Levomenthol: Provides mild local anesthetic and decongestant properties, easing breathing.

  • Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride: An antihistamine with antitussive (cough suppressant), anticholinergic, and sedative properties. It reduces the effects of natural chemical histamine in the body, alleviating allergy symptoms and promoting sleep.

Dosage & Administration:

  • Adults and children over 12 years: 10 ml (2 teaspoonfuls) 4 times a day. For night-time cough relief, take 10 ml at bedtime followed by 10 ml every 6 hours.

  • Children under 12 years: Safety and efficacy have not been established; consult a physician.

  • Administration: Shake the bottle well before use. Can be taken with or without food.

Interaction:

  • CNS depressants: May potentiate the effects of alcohol, codeine, antihistamines, and other central nervous system depressants.

  • Anticholinergics: Effects may be enhanced, leading to dry mouth, urinary retention, and other anticholinergic side effects.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the components.

  • Patients who have taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) within the last two weeks.

  • Children under 12 years of age.

Side Effects:

  • Common: Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, nose, and throat, nausea, and vomiting.

  • Less common: Gastrointestinal disturbances, blurred vision, difficulty in urination.

  • Rare: Palpitations, tremors, convulsions, skin rashes, erythema, urticaria, angioedema.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

  • Pregnancy: Should be used only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.

  • Lactation: Caution is advised; consult a healthcare professional before use.

Precautions & Warnings:

  • May cause drowsiness; avoid driving or operating machinery if affected.

  • Use with caution in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma or symptomatic prostatic hypertrophy.

  • Not recommended for persistent or chronic cough, such as occurs with asthma, or where cough is accompanied by excessive secretions unless directed by a physician.
