Indications:
RIVAROX 20 MG is indicated for:
Prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation
Treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE)
Prevention of recurrence of DVT and PE after initial treatment
Pharmacology:
Rivaroxaban is an oral, direct Factor Xa inhibitor that selectively inhibits Factor Xa, reducing thrombin generation and fibrin clot formation. It has predictable pharmacokinetics and does not require routine coagulation monitoring.
Dosage:
For stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation: 20 mg once daily with food
For DVT/PE treatment: 15 mg twice daily for 21 days, then 20 mg once daily with food
Dosage must be adjusted in renal impairment
Administration:
Take orally with food to improve absorption. Should be taken at the same time every day. Do not crush or split the tablet unless directed.
Interaction:
Can interact with other anticoagulants, NSAIDs, antiplatelet drugs, CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, ritonavir), and SSRIs/SNRIs. Alcohol may increase bleeding risk.
Contraindications:
Active bleeding
Severe liver disease with coagulopathy
Hypersensitivity to rivaroxaban
Pregnancy and lactation (unless specifically advised)
Side Effects:
Most common: bleeding, anemia, bruising, and nausea.
Rare but serious: intracranial hemorrhage, liver dysfunction, and thrombocytopenia.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless clearly needed. Use only under medical supervision.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment. Monitor for signs of bleeding. Avoid abrupt discontinuation unless advised by a physician.
