Indications:
Relief of allergic conditions such as hay fever, urticaria, and pruritus
Control of itching and skin rashes
Prevention and treatment of motion sickness and nausea
Pharmacology:
Trimeprazine is a phenothiazine derivative with antihistaminic, anticholinergic, and sedative properties. It blocks H1 histamine receptors, reducing allergic reactions and itching.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: 1 to 2 mg two to three times daily, or as prescribed
Children: Dose adjusted according to age and weight
Take with or without food, swallow with water
Interaction:
May potentiate sedative effects with CNS depressants (alcohol, benzodiazepines)
Possible increased effect with other antihistamines or anticholinergic drugs
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to trimeprazine or phenothiazines
Severe CNS depression
Patients with glaucoma or urinary retention
Side Effects:
Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth
Rare: allergic reactions, hypotension
May cause blurred vision or constipation
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor. Consult before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Avoid alcohol and activities requiring alertness
Use cautiously in elderly and those with liver/kidney impairment
Do not discontinue abruptly
