GLUNOR 850MG Tablet is indicated for:
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: To improve blood sugar control in adults and children above 10 years of age when diet and exercise alone are insufficient.
Metformin is a biguanide that works by:
Decreasing hepatic glucose production.
Increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.
Improving insulin sensitivity.
It does not stimulate insulin secretion, reducing the risk of hypoglycemia.
Dosage:
Adults: Start with 500mg or 850mg once daily, gradually increasing to a maximum of 2550mg daily in divided doses.
Children (10 years and above): Start with 500mg once daily, up to a maximum of 2000mg daily.
Administration:
Take with or after meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.
Increased Risk of Lactic Acidosis: With alcohol or iodinated contrast agents.
Reduced Efficacy: With corticosteroids, diuretics, or beta-agonists.
Hypersensitivity to Metformin.
Severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²).
Acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis.
Common: Gastrointestinal disturbances like nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort.
Rare: Lactic acidosis, vitamin B12 deficiency.
Pregnancy: Metformin may be used if prescribed; consult a healthcare provider.
Lactation: Excreted in breast milk but generally considered safe with monitoring.
Monitor renal function regularly.
Avoid alcohol consumption to reduce the risk of lactic acidosis.
Discontinue temporarily before surgery or radiological studies involving contrast agents.
