Indications:
Cifibet 100 MG Tablet is indicated for the treatment of:
Upper and lower respiratory tract infections
Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
Otitis media
Skin and soft tissue infections
Gastrointestinal infections, including typhoid fever
Pharmacology:
Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. It is effective against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
Dosage and Administration:
Adults and children over 12 years: 200-400 mg daily in a single dose or divided into two doses.
Children: 8 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 12 hours or as directed by a physician.
Take with or without food.
Interaction:
Antacids containing aluminum or magnesium may reduce absorption.
Concurrent use with warfarin may increase the risk of bleeding.
Probenecid increases cefixime serum levels by reducing renal excretion.
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to Cefixime or other cephalosporins.
Severe allergic reactions to penicillins due to potential cross-reactivity.
Side Effects:
Common: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort.
Rare: Hypersensitivity reactions like rash, pruritus, or anaphylaxis.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Cefixime is generally considered safe during pregnancy but should be used only if clearly indicated.
It is excreted in small amounts in breast milk; caution is advised during lactation.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis.
Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of resistant organisms.
Renal function should be monitored in patients with renal impairment.
