Indications:
SENTIX 0.5MG is indicated for the treatment of:
Depression with or without anxiety
Schizophrenia
Psychoses
Pharmacology:
Flupentixol is a thioxanthene derivative antipsychotic that functions by blocking dopamine D1 and D2 receptors in the central nervous system, thereby reducing psychotic symptoms and improving mood.
Dosage:
Adults:
Initially, 1 mg daily.
After one week, the dose may be increased to 2 mg daily.
Maximum dose: 3 mg daily.
Doses above 2 mg should be divided into two doses.
The last dose should be taken no later than 4 p.m.
Elderly:
Initially, 0.5 mg daily.
After one week, the dose may be increased to 1 mg daily.
Maximum dose: 2 mg daily in divided doses.
Administration:
SENTIX 0.5MG should be taken orally, with or without food. It is recommended to take the medication at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels.
Interaction:
May enhance the effects of alcohol, barbiturates, and other CNS depressants.
Concomitant use with MAO inhibitors may cause hypertensive crises.
May potentiate the effects of adrenaline and noradrenaline.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Flupentixol or any of its components.
Comatose states.
Severe depression.
CNS depression due to alcohol or other CNS depressants.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include:
Drowsiness
Dry mouth
Constipation
Weight gain
Orthostatic hypotension
Extrapyramidal symptoms (e.g., tremor, rigidity)
Pregnancy & Lactation:
SENTIX 0.5MG should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is excreted in breast milk; therefore, caution should be exercised when administered to nursing mothers.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with a history of cardiovascular disorders.
Monitor for signs of extrapyramidal symptoms.
Avoid abrupt discontinuation of the medication.
