Indications:
Cardon 50 MG Tablet is indicated for:
Hypertension
Edema due to congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, or nephrotic syndrome
Primary hyperaldosteronism
Hypokalemia where potassium supplementation is not feasible
Pharmacology:
Spironolactone is an aldosterone antagonist that works on the distal renal tubules to promote sodium and water excretion while retaining potassium. It effectively reduces blood pressure, edema, and symptoms of hyperaldosteronism.
Dosage and Administration:
Hypertension: 50-100 mg daily, in single or divided doses as prescribed by a physician.
Edema: 50-200 mg daily depending on the condition and response.
Best taken after meals for optimal absorption.
Interaction:
Increased risk of hyperkalemia when used with ACE inhibitors or potassium supplements.
NSAIDs may reduce the diuretic efficacy of Spironolactone.
Co-administration with digoxin may heighten the risk of toxicity.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Spironolactone or any ingredient of the tablet.
Hyperkalemia, severe renal dysfunction, or Addison’s disease.
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, headache, gynecomastia, dizziness.
Rare: Hyperkalemia, menstrual irregularities, electrolyte imbalance.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed, under medical supervision.
Not recommended during breastfeeding as the drug may pass into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Regular monitoring of potassium levels and renal function is essential.
Use cautiously in elderly patients and those with hepatic dysfunction.
Avoid excessive potassium intake from dietary sources.
