Long Description:
Indications:
Treatment of hypertension and chronic stable angina, including vasospastic angina.
Pharmacology:
Amlodipine inhibits calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, causing vasodilation and reduced blood pressure.
Dosage:
Typical dose is 5 mg once daily; dose may be increased to 10 mg based on response.
Administration:
Orally administered once daily, with or without food.
Interaction:
May interact with other antihypertensives, CYP3A4 inhibitors, and grapefruit juice.
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to amlodipine.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include swelling, headache, dizziness, and flushing.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed during pregnancy; consult physician before use during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use cautiously in patients with severe aortic stenosis or heart failure.
