Indications:
Diretic DS 40/50 mg is prescribed for managing hypertension (high blood pressure) and reducing the risk of cardiovascular events like stroke and heart attack.
Pharmacology:
Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that dilates blood vessels, lowering blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that reduces fluid retention and blood volume, aiding blood pressure control.
Dosage:

Usually administered once daily or as prescribed by the physician.

Dosage may be adjusted based on patient response and clinical condition.
Administration:
Oral use, taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Interaction:
May interact with potassium supplements, other antihypertensive drugs, NSAIDs, lithium, and other diuretics. Monitor blood pressure and electrolytes regularly.
Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to Losartan, Hydrochlorothiazide, or sulfonamides

Severe kidney impairment or anuria

Pregnancy (especially second and third trimester) and lactation
Side Effects:
Common side effects include dizziness, headache, fatigue, cough, and increased urination. Electrolyte imbalance and kidney dysfunction are rare but serious side effects.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not recommended during pregnancy. Use with caution during lactation under medical supervision.
