Indications:
Dicaltrol Plus is indicated for treatment and prevention of calcium deficiency, secondary hyperparathyroidism in chronic kidney disease, hypocalcemia, and metabolic bone diseases such as osteomalacia and osteoporosis.
Pharmacology:
Calcitriol: Active vitamin D3 analog that increases intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphate, helping maintain calcium balance and bone health.
Calcium: Essential mineral that supports bone structure and metabolic functions.
Dosage:
Dosage varies depending on patient's serum calcium levels and physician’s prescription.
Typically taken orally once or twice daily with meals.
Administration:
Oral administration. Take with or without food as directed by the physician.
Interaction:
May interact with thiazide diuretics, magnesium-containing antacids, digoxin, and other calcium supplements.
Monitor serum calcium to prevent hypercalcemia.
Contraindications:
Hypercalcemia or vitamin D toxicity
Known hypersensitivity to Calcitriol, Calcium, or any component of the formulation
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include nausea, vomiting, constipation, dry mouth, headache, and symptoms of hypercalcemia such as weakness and fatigue.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by the physician. Safety in pregnancy and lactation is not well established.
Precautions & Warnings:
Regular monitoring of serum calcium and phosphate is essential.
Avoid overdose of vitamin D and calcium to prevent toxicity.
Use caution in patients with renal or cardiac impairment.
