Indications:
MEPOGEST 10 MG is indicated for the treatment of menstrual disorders including amenorrhea, abnormal uterine bleeding, endometriosis, and as part of hormone replacement therapy in postmenopausal women.
Pharmacology:
Medroxyprogesterone acetate is a synthetic progestin that mimics the action of natural progesterone. It acts on the endometrium to regulate menstrual cycles and maintain pregnancy. It also inhibits secretion of gonadotropins, preventing ovulation.
Dosage:
The dose varies depending on the indication:

For menstrual disorders: 5-10 mg daily for 5 to 10 days.

For endometriosis: 10 mg daily or as prescribed.
Administration:
Take orally with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.
Interaction:
Medroxyprogesterone may interact with enzyme-inducing drugs such as rifampicin, phenytoin, and barbiturates, which can reduce its effectiveness.
Contraindications:

Known hypersensitivity to medroxyprogesterone or any component of the formulation.

Pregnancy (except for certain conditions under medical supervision).

Active thromboembolic disorders.

Breast cancer or hormone-dependent tumors.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, dizziness, breast tenderness, spotting or breakthrough bleeding, and mood changes.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated during pregnancy unless prescribed for specific medical reasons. Use during lactation only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician.
