Indications:
SPIRUCAP 500MG is indicated for the treatment of edema associated with congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, nephrotic syndrome, and hypertension. It is also used for primary hyperaldosteronism. -
Pharmacology:
Spironolactone is an aldosterone antagonist that works by blocking aldosterone receptors in the distal renal tubules, increasing sodium and water excretion while retaining potassium. -
Dosage:
Typical dose ranges from 25 mg to 200 mg daily depending on the condition. Dosage for edema or hypertension is individualized by the physician. -
Administration:
Take orally with or after meals to minimize gastrointestinal irritation. Swallow tablets whole with water. -
Interaction:
May interact with ACE inhibitors, ARBs, potassium supplements, NSAIDs, and other diuretics, which can increase potassium levels or affect kidney function. Consult a physician before combining medications. -
Contraindications:
Hyperkalemia, Addison’s disease, anuria, acute renal insufficiency, hypersensitivity to spironolactone. -
Side Effects:
Hyperkalemia, gynecomastia, menstrual irregularities, dizziness, gastrointestinal disturbances, dehydration. -
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Safety in lactation is not established; consult a physician before use. -
