Indications:
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
Asthma management in patients requiring long-term control
Pharmacology:
Salmeterol: A long-acting β₂-adrenergic agonist that relaxes bronchial smooth muscles, leading to bronchodilation.
Fluticasone Propionate: A corticosteroid that reduces inflammation in the airways, helping to prevent asthma attacks and manage COPD symptoms.
Dosage:
Adults and children aged 12 years and older: 1 inhalation twice daily (morning and evening).
Not recommended for children under 12 years without medical supervision.
Administration:
Dry powder inhalation via the Mycap device.
Inhale deeply and hold your breath for 10 seconds after activation.
Rinse your mouth with water after use to reduce the risk of oral thrush.
Interaction:
Use with caution in patients taking other β₂-agonists or corticosteroids.
May interact with certain antifungal medications, HIV protease inhibitors, and other drugs affecting the CYP3A4 enzyme.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to salmeterol, fluticasone propionate, or any other components of the inhaler.
Acute asthma attacks; not for use as a rescue inhaler.
Side Effects:
Common: Headache, throat irritation, hoarseness, oral candidiasis (thrush), cough.
Less common: Palpitations, muscle cramps, dizziness, nausea.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy and lactation should be as per the recommendation of a registered physician.
