Indications:
MONOCARD 20 MG is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), angina pectoris, and to reduce the risk of myocardial infarction. It may also be used in some arrhythmias.
Pharmacology:
Atenolol selectively blocks beta-1 adrenergic receptors in the heart, leading to decreased heart rate, cardiac output, and blood pressure, reducing oxygen demand of the heart muscle.
Dosage:
Typically 25 to 50 mg once daily, dose may be adjusted by the physician according to the condition.
Administration:
Take orally with water, with or without food, preferably at the same time daily.
Interaction:
May interact with calcium channel blockers, other antihypertensives, antiarrhythmics, and NSAIDs. Inform your physician about all medications.
Contraindications:
Severe bradycardia, heart block greater than first degree, cardiogenic shock, untreated heart failure.
Hypersensitivity to atenolol.
Severe peripheral arterial disease.
Side Effects:
Fatigue, dizziness, cold extremities, slow heart rate, gastrointestinal disturbances, and rarely bronchospasm.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed. Consult physician before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
