NIDOCARD RETARD 6.4 MG is primarily indicated for:
Prevention of Angina: It is used for the prevention of angina (chest pain) caused by reduced blood flow to the heart.
Chronic Heart Failure: It may be used as part of the treatment for heart failure to improve symptoms and quality of life.
Management of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD): To reduce the frequency and severity of angina attacks in patients with coronary artery disease.
NIDOCARD RETARD 6.4 MG contains Isosorbide Mononitrate, a nitrate that works by relaxing and widening blood vessels. This helps improve the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the heart, reducing the heart's workload and preventing chest pain (angina). By dilating the veins and arteries, Isosorbide Mononitrate lowers the amount of blood returning to the heart, which reduces the heart's need for oxygen, thereby preventing angina attacks.
The extended-release formulation (retard) of Isosorbide Mononitrate allows for a gradual release of the active ingredient over time, providing longer-lasting relief from angina.
For Angina: The usual starting dose is 6.4 mg once daily. Depending on the response and the patient's condition, the dose may be increased or adjusted. The maximum daily dose is generally 12.8 mg.
For Chronic Heart Failure: The dose may be adjusted based on the severity of the condition and clinical response. Start with the minimum effective dose.
NIDOCARD RETARD 6.4 MG should be taken once daily, usually in the morning.
The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water.
Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet, as this may interfere with the slow-release action of the medication.
It can be taken with or without food, but it should be taken at the same time every day for best results.
NIDOCARD RETARD 6.4 MG may interact with:
Other vasodilators (e.g., nitrates, hydralazine, ACE inhibitors) may enhance the blood pressure-lowering effects, leading to dizziness or fainting.
Phosphodiesterase inhibitors (e.g., sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil): The combination can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure and should be avoided.
Antihypertensive drugs: May increase the risk of hypotension (low blood pressure).
Alcohol: Excessive alcohol intake may enhance the blood pressure-lowering effects and cause dizziness or fainting.
Always inform your healthcare provider about all medications (including over-the-counter drugs and supplements) you are using.
Hypersensitivity to Isosorbide Mononitrate or any of the other components in the formulation.
Severe hypotension (low blood pressure).
Severe anemia: As nitrates may further reduce the oxygen supply to tissues.
Concomitant use with erectile dysfunction medications (PDE5 inhibitors), such as sildenafil, tadalafil, or vardenafil, due to the risk of severe hypotension.
Closed-angle glaucoma or increased intracranial pressure: Use with caution in these conditions.
Pregnancy and lactation: Should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary.
Common side effects: Headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, and flushing. These are often associated with the vasodilating effects of nitrates.
Serious side effects: Severe hypotension (very low blood pressure), fainting, rapid heart rate (tachycardia), and palpitations.
Other side effects: Fatigue, blurred vision, and rash. Long-term use may occasionally lead to tolerance, reducing the effectiveness of the drug.
Pregnancy: NIDOCARD RETARD 6.4 MG is classified as a Category C drug during pregnancy, meaning it should be used only when the potential benefits justify the risks to the fetus. Consult your doctor before use.
Lactation: It is not known if Isosorbide Mononitrate is excreted in breast milk. Use caution and consult your healthcare provider before taking this medication while breastfeeding.
