Indications:

MYSULIN 30/70 is indicated for the management of diabetes mellitus, including:

  • Type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent diabetes).

  • Type 2 diabetes (non-insulin dependent diabetes) when blood sugar cannot be controlled through diet, exercise, and oral hypoglycemic agents alone.

It is also used for patients who require a combination of both short-acting and long-acting insulin to maintain blood sugar levels within normal ranges.

Pharmacology:

MYSULIN 30/70 is a combination of two types of insulin:

  • Regular insulin (30%): A short-acting insulin that helps lower blood glucose levels quickly after injection, typically acting within 30 minutes and lasting for 6-8 hours.

  • Isophane insulin (NPH, 70%): A longer-acting insulin that helps maintain blood sugar control for up to 12–16 hours by gradually releasing insulin into the bloodstream.

The combination of these insulins helps in better blood sugar control, both after meals (short-acting) and over a longer period (long-acting).

Dosage:

  • The dosage is individualized based on the patient’s requirements.

  • Typical starting dose for adults with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes is 0.5 to 1 unit per kilogram of body weight, administered 1–2 times daily.

  • The injection can be given subcutaneously in the fatty tissue of the abdomen or thigh.

  • Adjustments: Based on blood sugar levels, the dose may need to be adjusted by the healthcare provider.

Administration:

  • MYSULIN 30/70 should be administered by subcutaneous injection as directed by your healthcare provider.

  • It should be injected into the fatty tissue of the thigh, abdomen, or upper arm.

  • Rotate injection sites to avoid skin irritation or lipodystrophy.

  • Shake the vial gently before use to mix the insulin, as the suspension can separate.

Interaction:

  • MYSULIN 30/70 may interact with oral hypoglycemics (e.g., sulfonylureas), corticosteroids, diuretics, thyroid hormones, beta-blockers, and alcohol.

  • Some drugs may enhance the hypoglycemic effects of insulin, while others may increase blood sugar levels.

  • Always inform your healthcare provider about any other medications you are using, including over-the-counter medicines and supplements.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to insulin or any of the excipients in the formulation.

  • Severe hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).

  • Ketoacidosis (diabetic coma).

  • Uncontrolled or poorly controlled diabetes (may require insulin adjustment).

Side Effects:

  • Common side effects: Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), injection site reactions (e.g., redness, swelling, itching), weight gain, and edema.

  • Serious side effects: Hypoglycemic coma, allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), lipodystrophy, and swelling of the face or throat.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

  • MYSULIN 30/70 is generally considered safe for use during pregnancy, especially for managing diabetes during pregnancy (gestational diabetes), but should only be used under a doctor’s supervision.

  • Insulin passes into breast milk in small amounts, but it is generally considered safe for breastfeeding. Always consult your healthcare provider before using insulin during pregnancy and lactation.
