Indications:

NOFENAC 100 MG is primarily indicated for the treatment of:

Pain relief: Effective in relieving acute pain such as dental pain, post-surgical pain, and musculoskeletal pain.
Osteoarthritis: For the symptomatic treatment of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis.
Rheumatoid Arthritis: To manage pain and inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis.
Dysmenorrhea (Menstrual pain): To relieve pain associated with menstruation.
Fever reduction: To lower fever associated with infections or inflammatory conditions.

Pharmacology:

NOFENAC contains Nimesulide, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme, which plays a key role in the production of prostaglandins, chemicals that promote inflammation, pain, and fever in the body. By reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins, Nimesulide effectively reduces pain, swelling, and fever.

Unlike some other NSAIDs, Nimesulide is considered a selective COX-2 inhibitor, meaning it mainly inhibits the enzyme responsible for inflammation and pain, with less effect on the enzyme involved in protecting the stomach lining. This selectivity may result in a lower risk of gastrointestinal side effects compared to non-selective NSAIDs.

Dosage:

For Pain Relief (e.g., musculoskeletal pain, dental pain): The usual dose is 100 mg twice daily, after meals.
For Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis: The recommended dose is typically 100 mg twice daily, but the dose may be adjusted based on the severity of symptoms.
For Dysmenorrhea: 100 mg twice daily is usually effective, starting at the onset of symptoms.
For Fever: The usual dose is 100 mg once or twice daily, depending on the severity of the fever.

Maximum Dose: 200 mg per day (unless otherwise prescribed by your healthcare provider).

Administration:

NOFENAC 100 MG tablets should be taken with food to reduce the risk of stomach upset.
Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water.
Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet.
Follow the prescribed dosage and timing carefully. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Interaction:

NOFENAC 100 MG may interact with:

Other NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, aspirin): Concurrent use may increase the risk of gastrointestinal side effects like ulcers or bleeding.
Antihypertensive drugs (e.g., ACE inhibitors, diuretics): Nimesulide may reduce the effectiveness of these medications in controlling blood pressure.
Blood thinners (e.g., warfarin): Increases the risk of bleeding when used together.
Corticosteroids: May increase the risk of gastrointestinal side effects.
Lithium: Nimesulide may increase lithium levels in the blood, leading to toxicity.
Always inform your healthcare provider of any other medications, including over-the-counter drugs, supplements, or herbal products you are using.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to Nimesulide or any of its components.
Gastrointestinal disorders (e.g., peptic ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding).
Severe liver or kidney dysfunction.
Pregnancy (especially in the third trimester).
Active bleeding disorders.
History of gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation related to NSAID use.
Children under 12 years of age.

Side Effects:

Common side effects: Nausea, abdominal pain, dizziness, headache, and indigestion.
Serious side effects: Liver toxicity (jaundice, dark urine, elevated liver enzymes), gastrointestinal bleeding, peptic ulcers, allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing), and kidney problems (reduced urine output, swelling).
Other side effects: Skin reactions, hypertension, and fluid retention.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

Pregnancy: Nimesulide should be avoided during pregnancy, particularly in the third trimester, due to the risk of harm to the fetus (e.g., premature closure of the ductus arteriosus). It is generally not recommended during the first and second trimesters unless absolutely necessary.
Lactation: Nimesulide is excreted in breast milk. It should only be used during breastfeeding if the potential benefit justifies the risk to the infant. Consult a healthcare provider before using it while breastfeeding.
