Indications:
Dicef 250mg is indicated for treatment of bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia), urinary tract infections, otitis media, pharyngitis, and uncomplicated gonorrhea.
Pharmacology:
Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis leading to bacterial death.
Dosage:
Adults: Usually 200-400 mg daily, given as a single or divided dose for 7-14 days depending on infection severity.
Children: Dose based on body weight and severity of infection, as prescribed by a doctor.
Administration:
Oral administration with or without food. Complete full course even if symptoms improve.
Interaction:
May interact with antacids, probenecid, and warfarin. Inform your physician about all medications.
Contraindications:
Known allergy to cephalosporins or penicillins
Severe hypersensitivity reactions to beta-lactam antibiotics
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, rash, headache, and allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Generally considered safe in pregnancy (Category B). Use during lactation only if clearly needed.
