Indications:
MYCOFREE 250 MG is indicated for the treatment of:
Onychomycosis (nail infections) caused by dermatophytes.
Fungal infections of the skin, including:
Tinea corporis (ringworm of the body)
Tinea cruris (jock itch)
Tinea pedis (athlete's foot)
Hair and scalp infections (Tinea capitis).
Yeast infections of the skin caused by Candida species, where oral therapy is considered appropriate due to the site, severity, or extent of the infection.
Pharmacology:
Terbinafine works by inhibiting squalene epoxidase, an enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes. This inhibition leads to a deficiency in ergosterol and an accumulation of squalene within the fungal cell, resulting in fungal cell death.
Dosage:
Tinea cruris: 250 mg once daily for 2 to 4 weeks.
Tinea pedis: 250 mg once daily for 2 to 6 weeks.
Tinea corporis: 250 mg once daily for 4 weeks.
Dermatophyte infections of the fingernails: 250 mg once daily for 6 weeks.
Dermatophyte infections of the toenails: 250 mg once daily for 12 weeks.
Hair and scalp infections (Tinea capitis): 250 mg once daily for 4 weeks.
Administration:
Take orally with or without food.
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Do not chew, crush, or break the tablet.
Interaction:
Terbinafine may interact with certain medications, including:
CYP2D6 substrates: Terbinafine can inhibit the metabolism of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
Cimetidine: May increase terbinafine levels.
Rifampicin: May decrease terbinafine levels.
Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking to avoid potential interactions.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to terbinafine or any component of the formulation.
Active or chronic liver disease.
Pregnancy (unless clearly needed) and lactation.
Side Effects:
Common: Headache, gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, diarrhea), rash.
Rare: Hepatotoxicity, taste disturbances, neutropenia, and allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: Category B. Should not be used during pregnancy unless the potential benefits clearly outweigh the risks.
Lactation: Terbinafine is excreted in breast milk. It should not be given to nursing mothers.
Therapeutic Class:
