Description

  • রেজিস্টার্ড চিকিৎসকের পরামর্শ মোতাবেক ঔষধ সেবন করুন

Pharmacology:

  • Lamotrigine, the active ingredient in Limpet 2 mg, works by inhibiting voltage-gated sodium channels in the brain.

  • By blocking these channels, it reduces the excessive electrical activity that leads to seizures in epilepsy and helps in stabilizing the overactive neurotransmitter release that causes mood swings in bipolar disorder.

  • Lamotrigine also reduces the release of glutamate, an excitatory neurotransmitter, which plays a key role in seizure activity and mood instability.

  • Limpet 2 mg is well absorbed when taken orally and has a half-life of 25 to 33 hours.

Dosage:

  • The starting dose for Limpet 2 mg in epilepsy is typically 25 mg once a day, gradually increased to 100–200 mg per day depending on the patient's condition.

  • For bipolar disorder, the starting dose is generally 25 mg per day, gradually increasing over time to reduce the risk of side effects. The typical dose range for bipolar disorder is 100–200 mg daily.

  • The exact dose may vary depending on the patient's age, condition, and whether they are on other medications such as valproate (which increases Lamotrigine levels) or carbamazepine (which decreases Lamotrigine levels).

Administration:

  • Limpet 2 mg should be taken orally once a day, at the same time each day for consistency.

  • It can be taken with or without food.

  • Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew the tablet to avoid altering its effectiveness.

  • Do not suddenly stop taking Lamotrigine without medical advice, as this could increase the risk of seizures.

Interaction:

  • Valproate (an anticonvulsant) may increase Lamotrigine levels in the blood, requiring a lower dose of Limpet 2 mg.

  • Carbamazepine (another anticonvulsant) may decrease Lamotrigine levels, requiring an increase in the dose of Limpet 2 mg.

  • Hormonal contraceptives (birth control pills) and certain other medications may alter the metabolism of Lamotrigine, affecting its effectiveness.

  • Caution is advised when taking other antiepileptic drugs, antidepressants, or antipsychotic drugs in combination with Lamotrigine.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to Lamotrigine or any of its components.

  • Should be avoided in patients who have a history of serious rashes (such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome) or allergic reactions associated with Lamotrigine.

  • Pregnancy: Lamotrigine is Category C during pregnancy, meaning it should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks. Pregnant women should consult their doctor before using it.

  • Liver or kidney impairment: Caution is required when prescribing Lamotrigine to patients with liver or kidney disorders.

Side Effects:

  • Common side effects may include dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, and sleep disturbances.

  • Serious side effects can include a severe rash (potentially Stevens-Johnson syndrome), suicidal thoughts, and life-threatening allergic reactions (e.g., swelling of the face, lips, or throat).

  • Visual disturbances, coordination problems, and ataxia (lack of coordination) may also occur.

  • Mood changes, particularly depression and suicidal thoughts, should be monitored, especially in younger patients.

  • If you notice a rash or blisters or experience difficulty breathing, seek medical attention immediately.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

  • Pregnancy: Lamotrigine is generally considered safe during pregnancy but should only be used when necessary and after consulting a healthcare provider. Dosage adjustments may be required during pregnancy.

  • Lactation: Lamotrigine is excreted into breast milk in small amounts. While it is generally considered safe for breastfeeding, it is important to consult a healthcare provider before using it while nursing.
