Indications:
FUREX 500 MG is indicated for the treatment of:

Edema (fluid retention) caused by conditions such as congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, and kidney disease (nephrotic syndrome).
Hypertension (high blood pressure), often as part of combination therapy.
This medication helps reduce fluid buildup in the body and lowers blood pressure by increasing urine production.

Pharmacology:
FUREX contains Furosemide, a powerful loop diuretic that works by inhibiting the reabsorption of sodium and chloride in the kidneys, specifically in the loop of Henle. This causes an increase in urine production, resulting in the removal of excess salt and fluid from the body, thereby reducing fluid retention and lowering blood pressure.

Dosage:

Adults: The usual dose is 20-80 mg daily, depending on the severity of the condition. For severe cases, the dose may be increased gradually, up to 600 mg per day under medical supervision.
For hypertension, the usual starting dose is 40 mg daily, which may be adjusted according to the response.
Children: Dosage based on the child’s weight and the severity of the condition, as prescribed by the physician.

Administration:

Take FUREX 500 MG orally with or without food.
Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water.
Usually taken once or twice daily, as prescribed.
It is important to follow the dosing schedule closely and not to stop the medication abruptly without consulting a doctor.

Interaction:
FUREX may interact with the following medications:

Antihypertensive drugs (may enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect).
Lithium (may increase the risk of lithium toxicity).
Digoxin (may increase the risk of heart rhythm problems).
NSAIDs (may reduce the effectiveness of Furosemide).
Corticosteroids (may increase the risk of low potassium levels).

Contraindications:
FUREX should not be used in the following cases:

Hypotension (low blood pressure).

Side Effects:
Common side effects of FUREX include:

Increased urination (common and expected).
Dehydration, dizziness, and headache.
Low potassium (hypokalemia), low sodium (hyponatremia), and low blood pressure (hypotension).
Serious side effects may include:
Kidney dysfunction, hearing loss (rare), and severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis).
If any of these severe side effects occur, immediate medical attention is required.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

Pregnancy: Furosemide is classified as Category C. It should only be used if absolutely necessary during pregnancy. Consult a doctor for advice.
Lactation: Furosemide is excreted in breast milk. It is advised to consult a healthcare provider before using this medication while breastfeeding.
