Indications:
Used for the treatment of hypertension when monotherapy with telmisartan or hydrochlorothiazide is insufficient. It helps reduce blood pressure and cardiovascular morbidity.
Pharmacology:
Telmisartan: An angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that inhibits vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure.
Hydrochlorothiazide: A thiazide diuretic that promotes sodium and water excretion, reducing blood volume and pressure.
Dosage:
Usually one tablet once daily, or as directed by the physician.
Administration:
Take orally with or without food, preferably at the same time daily.
Interaction:
May interact with other antihypertensives, potassium supplements, lithium, NSAIDs, and drugs affecting renal function. Regular monitoring is advised.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to telmisartan, hydrochlorothiazide, or any component.
Anuria, severe renal or hepatic impairment, pregnancy, and breastfeeding.
Side Effects:
Dizziness, hypotension, increased urination, electrolyte imbalance, headache, fatigue, and rarely gout or kidney dysfunction.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation due to risk of fetal harm.
Therapeutic Class:
Combination antihypertensive (ARB + thiazide diuretic).
