Indications:

OLMETIC PLUS 20/12.5 MG is indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults. It is used when blood pressure is not well controlled with Olmesartan or Hydrochlorothiazide alone. The combination of these two medications works together to help lower blood pressure effectively.

Pharmacology:

OLMETIC PLUS 20/12.5 MG combines two active ingredients:

Olmesartan Medoxomil: An Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB), which works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that constricts blood vessels. This leads to the relaxation and widening of blood vessels, which helps lower blood pressure.
Hydrochlorothiazide: A thiazide diuretic (water pill) that works by increasing the amount of urine produced by the kidneys, which helps the body get rid of excess salt and water, thereby reducing fluid retention and lowering blood pressure.

Together, these two components reduce blood pressure more effectively than either drug alone.

Dosage:

The typical starting dose of OLMETIC PLUS 20/12.5 MG is one tablet once daily.
The dosage may be adjusted based on the individual's response to treatment. In some cases, the doctor may increase the dose to 40/12.5 mg or 40/25 mg once daily.

Note: Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your healthcare provider.

Administration:

Oral administration: Take OLMETIC PLUS 20/12.5 MG tablet once a day with or without food.
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Take the medication at the same time each day to help remember.

Interaction:

Diuretics: Other diuretics can increase the risk of dehydration and low blood pressure. Caution is needed when combining with other blood pressure-lowering medications.
Potassium supplements: Taking potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics with OLMETIC PLUS may increase the risk of hyperkalemia (high potassium levels).
NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs): Prolonged use of NSAIDs may reduce the blood pressure-lowering effect of OLMETIC PLUS and increase the risk of kidney problems.
Lithium: There may be an increase in lithium levels in the blood, increasing the risk of lithium toxicity.
Other antihypertensives: The effect of blood pressure may be enhanced when combined with other antihypertensive medications.

Always inform your healthcare provider about any other medications or supplements you are using.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity: Do not use OLMETIC PLUS if you are allergic to Olmesartan, Hydrochlorothiazide, or any of the other components in the tablet.
Severe liver or kidney dysfunction: The medication is contraindicated in patients with severe liver or kidney problems.
Anuria: Do not use in patients who are unable to produce urine (anuria).
Pregnancy: OLMETIC PLUS is contraindicated during pregnancy, especially during the second and third trimesters, as it can harm the fetus.
Severe dehydration or electrolyte imbalances: If you have severe dehydration, low sodium, or high potassium levels, this medication should not be used.

Side Effects:

Common side effects: Dizziness, headache, fatigue, nausea, or increased urination.
Serious side effects: Severe low blood pressure (hypotension), kidney problems, elevated potassium levels (hyperkalemia), dehydration, angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue), and allergic reactions.
Less common side effects: Cough, back pain, or skin rash.

If you experience any of the following serious side effects, seek medical attention immediately:

Difficulty breathing or swallowing (signs of angioedema).
Severe dizziness or fainting.
Muscle weakness, cramps, or irregular heartbeat (signs of high potassium).

Pregnancy & Lactation:

Pregnancy: OLMETIC PLUS is contraindicated during pregnancy, especially after the first trimester, as it may harm the unborn baby. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, consult your doctor before using this medication.
Lactation: Olmesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide can pass into breast milk in small amounts. It is generally recommended to avoid breastfeeding while using OLMETIC PLUS, as it may affect the baby’s health.
