Loperamide, the active ingredient in LIMPET 4 MG, works by acting on the opioid receptors in the gut, which helps reduce the peristalsis (muscle movement) of the intestines, thereby slowing down the passage of stools.
Adults: Initially, 4 mg after the first loose stool, followed by 2 mg after each subsequent loose stool. The maximum dose should not exceed 16 mg per day.
Children (6 years and older): The dosage should be based on the doctor's recommendation.
LIMPET 4 MG should be taken orally with or without food.
It is available in tablet form and should be swallowed whole with a glass of water.
Loperamide may interact with certain medications, including:
CNS depressants like benzodiazepines, barbiturates, and alcohol, which may cause increased sedation.
Cimetidine may increase the concentration of loperamide in the blood.
Keto-conazole and other antifungal drugs may also affect loperamide metabolism.
Always consult a doctor before taking other medications with LIMPET 4 MG.
LIMPET 4 MG should not be used in individuals with:
Acute dysentery (bloody diarrhea)
Acute ulcerative colitis
Children under 6 years old
Severe liver impairment
Common Side Effects: Constipation, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, and abdominal pain.
Serious Side Effects: Risk of prolonged constipation, ileus (intestinal obstruction), and toxic megacolon, especially in cases of overdose.
Pregnancy: Loperamide should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Always consult a healthcare provider before using it.
Lactation: Loperamide is excreted in breast milk, but its effects on the infant are unknown. Use with caution and consult your doctor.
Anti-diarrheal agents.
