Pharmacology:

  • Loperamide, the active ingredient in LIMPET 4 MG, works by acting on the opioid receptors in the gut, which helps reduce the peristalsis (muscle movement) of the intestines, thereby slowing down the passage of stools.

Dosage:

  • Adults: Initially, 4 mg after the first loose stool, followed by 2 mg after each subsequent loose stool. The maximum dose should not exceed 16 mg per day.

  • Children (6 years and older): The dosage should be based on the doctor's recommendation.

Administration:

  • LIMPET 4 MG should be taken orally with or without food.

  • It is available in tablet form and should be swallowed whole with a glass of water.

Interaction:

  • Loperamide may interact with certain medications, including:

    • CNS depressants like benzodiazepines, barbiturates, and alcohol, which may cause increased sedation.

    • Cimetidine may increase the concentration of loperamide in the blood.
