Indications:
LINAROL M 500 MG is indicated for the management of Type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is particularly beneficial in patients who are not able to control their blood sugar levels through diet and exercise alone. The combination of Metformin and Linagliptin helps to regulate blood sugar levels by improving insulin sensitivity and reducing glucose production in the liver.
Pharmacology:
LINAROL M 500 MG combines two active ingredients:
Metformin: A biguanide that reduces hepatic glucose production and increases insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues, primarily the liver and muscles.
Linagliptin: A DPP-4 inhibitor that works by inhibiting the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase-4, which breaks down incretin hormones. By preventing this breakdown, Linagliptin helps increase insulin release and decrease glucagon levels when blood sugar is elevated.
Dosage:
Typically, one tablet (500 mg Metformin + 5 mg Linagliptin) once daily, taken with food to reduce gastrointestinal upset.
The dosage may be adjusted depending on the patient's blood sugar levels and the healthcare provider’s recommendation.
Administration:
Take with a meal to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea and diarrhea.
Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew.
Interaction:
LINAROL M may interact with other diabetes medications, including insulin and sulfonylureas, increasing the risk of hypoglycemia.
It may also interact with medications affecting kidney function (e.g., ACE inhibitors, diuretics).
Inform your doctor of all medications you are taking to avoid potential interactions.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Metformin, Linagliptin, or any component of the formulation.
Severe kidney impairment or acute kidney failure.
Diabetic ketoacidosis or diabetic pre-coma.
Severe liver disease or alcohol abuse.
Side Effects:
Common: Gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort.
Rare but serious: Lactic acidosis (metformin-related), pancreatitis (linagliptin-related), low blood sugar (especially when combined with other diabetes medications).
Long-term: Vitamin B12 deficiency with prolonged use of Metformin.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: Not recommended during pregnancy, unless specifically prescribed by a healthcare provider after careful consideration of the risks and benefits.
Lactation: It is unknown whether this medication passes into breast milk. Use during breastfeeding should only be considered if clearly needed.
Therapeutic Class:
Anti-diabetic combination; Biguanide + DPP-4 Inhibitor
Storage Conditions:
Store at room temperature (below 30°C), in a dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date.
