Long Description:
Indications:
SUDAC 100 MG is indicated for the treatment of epilepsy, including generalized and partial seizures, bipolar disorder, and migraine prophylaxis.
Pharmacology:
Sodium valproate increases brain levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter, reducing neuronal excitability and seizure activity.
Dosage:
Typical starting dose varies; for adults, 10-15 mg/kg/day in divided doses, adjusted as needed up to 60 mg/kg/day.
Administration:
Take orally with or after meals to reduce gastrointestinal discomfort. Swallow tablets whole.
Interaction:
May interact with other antiepileptic drugs, warfarin, aspirin, and certain antibiotics. Consult physician before combining medications.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to sodium valproate, severe liver disease, urea cycle disorders, pregnancy (unless benefits outweigh risks).
Side Effects:
Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, tremor, hair loss, weight gain, liver enzyme elevation, rare but serious hepatotoxicity.
