Indications:
MURON Ointment 2% w/w is indicated for the topical treatment of impetigo caused by Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. It may also be used for other superficial skin infections as prescribed by a healthcare provider.
Pharmacology:
Mupirocin is a naturally occurring antibiotic produced by Pseudomonas fluorescens. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through reversible and specific binding to isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase, leading to the cessation of protein synthesis and bacterial cell death.
Dosage:

Apply a small amount of ointment to the affected area 3 times daily.

Continue treatment for up to 10 days or as directed by your physician.
Administration:
Clean and dry the affected area before application. Apply a thin layer of ointment and gently rub it in. Wash your hands after use.
Interaction:
No significant drug interactions when used topically. Avoid combining with other topical antibiotics unless directed by a healthcare provider.
Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to mupirocin or any component of the formulation.

Not for ophthalmic or intranasal use.
Side Effects:

Common: Burning, stinging, or itching at the application site.
