Indications:

NEUROPEN 300 MG is primarily indicated for the treatment of:

Neuropathic Pain: Effective in relieving pain caused by nerve damage, such as in diabetic neuropathy or post-herpetic neuralgia (shingles).
Epilepsy: Used as an adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial seizures and generalized seizures in adults and children.
Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS): Helps in reducing discomfort and the urge to move the legs, especially during rest or sleep.
Post-surgical nerve pain: May be used to manage pain following surgery, particularly nerve-related pain.

Pharmacology:

NEUROPEN 300 MG contains Gabapentin, an anticonvulsant medication. Gabapentin works by affecting the central nervous system. It binds to a specific calcium channel subunit in the brain and spinal cord, reducing the release of excitatory neurotransmitters. This helps in decreasing abnormal electrical activity in the brain, which controls seizures and alleviates nerve pain.

Dosage:

For Neuropathic Pain: The usual starting dose is 300 mg on the first day, followed by 600 mg on the second day, and 900 mg on the third day, up to a maximum dose of 3600 mg per day, depending on the patient's response.
For Epilepsy: The usual dose for adults is 300 mg three times daily, with an increased dose based on the severity of seizures.
For Restless Leg Syndrome: 300 mg at bedtime, increased if necessary to 600 mg.
Maximum Dose: 3600 mg per day.

Administration:

NEUROPEN 300 MG should be taken orally, with or without food.
It is recommended to take the tablet with a full glass of water.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it's almost time for your next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed dose.

Interaction:

Gabapentin (NEUROPEN 300 MG) may interact with:

CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol, benzodiazepines): Increases the risk of drowsiness, dizziness, and other CNS side effects.
Antacids (containing aluminum or magnesium): May reduce the absorption of gabapentin if taken within 2 hours.
Opioid pain medications: The risk of respiratory depression and sedation may be increased when used with gabapentin.
Always inform your healthcare provider of any other medications, including over-the-counter drugs, supplements, or herbal products you are using.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to Gabapentin or any other component in the formulation.
Severe renal impairment (Kidney dysfunction): Dose adjustments are required for people with kidney problems.
Pregnancy and lactation: Should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit outweighs the risk.

Side Effects:

Common side effects: Dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, peripheral edema (swelling of the legs), blurred vision, and weight gain.
Serious side effects: Mood changes, depression, suicidal thoughts or behavior, uncoordinated movement, and severe allergic reactions.
Other side effects: Nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, and difficulty speaking.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

Pregnancy: Gabapentin is categorized as a Pregnancy Category C drug. It should only be used if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
Lactation: Gabapentin is excreted in breast milk, so it should only be used during breastfeeding if the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Consult a healthcare provider before using.
