Indications:
Used for the prevention and treatment of calcium deficiency, including conditions like osteoporosis, rickets, osteomalacia, and during pregnancy and lactation to meet increased calcium needs.
Pharmacology:
Calcium Carbonate is a calcium salt supplement that increases serum calcium levels. It plays a vital role in bone mineralization, muscle function, nerve transmission, and vascular contraction.
Dosage:
Adults: 1–2 tablets daily depending on dietary intake and physician’s advice.
Children: As directed by the physician.
Administration:
Oral. Should be taken after meals for better absorption. Swallow with a full glass of water.
Interaction:
May interact with certain antibiotics (e.g., tetracyclines, quinolones), thyroid medications, and iron supplements by reducing their absorption.
