Description

  • রেজিস্টার্ড চিকিৎসকের পরামর্শ মোতাবেক ঔষধ সেবন করুন

Pharmacology:

  • Lamotrigine, the active ingredient in Limpet 1 mg, works by inhibiting voltage-gated sodium channels, which are involved in the initiation and spread of electrical activity in the brain that leads to seizures.

  • It also stabilizes neuronal membranes, reducing the release of excitatory neurotransmitters like glutamate, which play a role in the development of both seizures and mood disorders.

  • Lamotrigine is well-absorbed orally, and its action is primarily in the central nervous system.

Dosage:

  • The recommended starting dose of Limpet 1 mg is typically 25 mg per day for epilepsy, gradually increasing depending on the patient's response.

  • For bipolar disorder, the starting dose is typically 25 mg daily, with gradual increases as directed by the healthcare provider.

  • The dosage may vary depending on whether the patient is taking other medications, particularly valproate (which may increase Lamotrigine levels) or carbamazepine (which may reduce Lamotrigine levels).

Administration:

  • Limpet 1 mg should be taken orally, once a day or as prescribed by the doctor.

  • It can be taken with or without food.

  • For optimal absorption, take the tablet with a full glass of water and avoid crushing or chewing it.

  • Do not abruptly stop taking the medication, as this may increase the risk of seizures. Always consult with your healthcare provider before making any changes.

Interaction:

  • Valproate (an anticonvulsant) can increase Lamotrigine levels in the blood, so the dose of Limpet 1 mg may need to be reduced if the patient is also taking valproate.

  • Carbamazepine (another anticonvulsant) can decrease Lamotrigine levels, requiring an increase in Limpet 1 mg dosage.

  • Certain birth control pills and other medications that affect liver enzymes can also interact with Lamotrigine.

  • Antidepressants, antipsychotics, and other anticonvulsants should be taken with caution when combined with Lamotrigine.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to Lamotrigine or any of its components.

  • Patients with a history of serious rash or allergic reactions associated with Lamotrigine should avoid using it.

  • Pregnancy: While Lamotrigine is often used in pregnancy, it should be used only if absolutely necessary, and only after consulting with a healthcare provider.

  • Caution is required in patients with liver disorders or kidney disease.

Side Effects:

  • Common side effects include dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, and sleep disturbances.

  • Serious side effects may include a severe rash (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome) or allergic reactions.

  • Drowsiness, coordination problems, and blurred vision may also occur.

  • Mood changes, including depression or thoughts of suicide, have been reported in some patients, particularly in younger individuals.

  • If you experience any of the following, seek immediate medical attention: skin rash, fever, swelling of the face or lips, shortness of breath, or severe dizziness.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

  • Pregnancy: Lamotrigine is considered category C for pregnancy, meaning it should be used only if the benefits outweigh the risks to the fetus. The dosage may need adjustment during pregnancy, particularly in the third trimester.

  • Lactation: Lamotrigine is excreted into breast milk in small amounts, so it should be used cautiously while breastfeeding. Consult your healthcare provider for further guidance.
