Indications:
Treatment of muscle spasticity caused by multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, or other neurological conditions.
Pharmacology:
Tizanidine acts as an alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist, reducing motor neuron activity in the CNS, which decreases muscle tone and spasticity.
Dosage:
Typically started at 2 mg three times daily. Dosage may be adjusted by the physician based on patient response and tolerance.
Administration:
Administer orally, with or without food. Swallow tablets whole with water.
Interaction:
Potential interactions with antihypertensives, CNS depressants, and ciprofloxacin. Use with caution and under medical supervision.
Contraindications:
Allergy to tizanidine, severe liver disease, and concomitant use with fluvoxamine or ciprofloxacin.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, hypotension, and weakness.
