Indications:
Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Chronic heart failure
Left ventricular dysfunction after myocardial infarction
To reduce cardiovascular mortality risk in patients with heart failure
Pharmacology:
Carvedilol is a non-selective beta-adrenergic blocker with alpha-1 blocking activity. It reduces heart rate, myocardial oxygen demand, and causes vasodilation, improving heart function and lowering blood pressure.
Dosage:
Adults usually start at 6.25 mg twice daily. Dose may be increased gradually based on tolerance and clinical response.
Administration:
Take orally with food to reduce the risk of orthostatic hypotension. Tablets should be swallowed whole.

Contraindications:
Asthma or bronchospastic conditions
Severe bradycardia
Heart block higher than first degree without pacemaker
Cardiogenic shock
Decompensated heart failure
Side Effects:
Common: Fatigue, dizziness, hypotension, bradycardia, weight gain
Less common: Cold extremities, diarrhea, rash, hyperglycemia
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if benefit justifies risk. Caution advised during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor heart rate and blood pressure regularly. Avoid sudden withdrawal to prevent exacerbation of angina or heart attack.
