**Indications:**
SEMECON P is indicated for progesterone deficiency states including secondary amenorrhea, abnormal uterine bleeding due to hormonal imbalance, luteal phase support in infertility treatments, and as part of hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
**Pharmacology:**
SEMECON P contains micronized progesterone, a naturally occurring steroid hormone essential for the regulation of ovulation and menstruation. It prepares the endometrium for implantation and maintains pregnancy. When administered parenterally, it mimics endogenous progesterone action with systemic bioavailability.
**Dosage & Administration:**
Dosage varies depending on the indication. For amenorrhea or abnormal uterine bleeding, typically 5–10 mg daily for 6–10 days. Administered via intramuscular injection. Should be used under medical supervision only.
**Interaction:**
May interact with enzyme inducers like rifampin, phenytoin, and carbamazepine. Estrogen combination therapy should be carefully balanced to avoid endometrial hyperplasia.
**Contraindications:**
Not to be used in individuals with known or suspected breast or genital cancers, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, liver dysfunction, or thromboembolic disorders.
**Side Effects:**
Side effects may include breast tenderness, dizziness, mood swings, nausea, bloating, and injection site reactions. Serious risks include thromboembolism and allergic reactions.
**Pregnancy & Lactation:**
Considered safe for use during pregnancy for certain indications like luteal support. Caution advised during lactation; minimal excretion in breast milk.
**Precautions & Warnings:**
Use with caution in patients with a history of depression, cardiovascular disease, or epilepsy. Regular monitoring advised during prolonged therapy.
**Therapeutic Class:**
Female Sex Hormones (Progesterone preparations)
**Storage Conditions:**
