Description

• রেজিস্টার্ড চিকিৎসকের পরামর্শ মোতাবেক ঔষধ সেবন করুন।

Indications:

FEROSPAN is indicated for the treatment and prevention of:

  • Iron deficiency anemia

  • Anemia related to pregnancy, chronic blood loss (e.g., heavy menstruation or gastrointestinal bleeding)

  • Dietary iron deficiency, especially in individuals with limited dietary intake or absorption

  • Supportive treatment for those who are at risk of iron deficiency, such as vegetarians, athletes, or those with absorption disorders

Pharmacology:

Ferrous Fumarate is an iron salt that provides elemental iron, which is necessary for the production of hemoglobin in red blood cells. Hemoglobin carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body. By supplementing iron levels, FEROSPAN helps correct iron deficiency anemia, improve oxygen transport, and increase overall energy levels.

Dosage:

  • Adults: Typically, 1 tablet (usually 200 mg to 300 mg of elemental iron) once or twice daily, as prescribed by a healthcare provider.

  • Children: The dose varies according to age and specific iron needs, based on pediatrician recommendations.

Administration:

  • Take the tablet orally with a glass of water.

  • It is better absorbed when taken on an empty stomach, but if it causes gastrointestinal upset, it can be taken with food.

  • Avoid taking with calcium-rich foods, tea, or coffee, as they can reduce iron absorption.

Interaction:

  • Antacids (e.g., magnesium, aluminum, calcium-containing), tetracycline antibiotics, and quinolones can interfere with the absorption of iron.

  • Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) enhances the absorption of iron, so it is beneficial to take FEROSPAN with a source of vitamin C (e.g., citrus fruits or juice).

  • Levothyroxine, penicillamine, and other medications like methyldopa or cimetidine may interact with iron supplements.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to Ferrous Fumarate or any components of the formulation

  • Hemochromatosis (iron overload disorder)

  • Hemosiderosis (excess iron accumulation in tissues)

  • Active peptic ulcer disease or gastritis

  • Children under 12 years of age (unless prescribed by a pediatrician)

Side Effects:

  • Common: Constipation, dark stools, nausea, stomach cramps, or diarrhea.

  • Less common: Vomiting, abdominal discomfort, loss of appetite, heartburn.

  • Serious: Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing (very rare).

Pregnancy & Lactation:

  • Pregnancy: Ferrous Fumarate is considered safe for use during pregnancy, especially in cases of iron deficiency anemia. It is commonly recommended to prevent anemia during pregnancy.

  • Lactation: Ferrous Fumarate is generally considered safe during breastfeeding, as only small amounts of iron are excreted in breast milk.

Therapeutic Class:

Hematological Agent (Iron supplement)
