Indications:
Acute Otitis Externa (Swimmer's ear)
Acute Otitis Media with tympanostomy tubes
Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media
Pharmacology:
Ciprofloxacin: A fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase, leading to bacterial cell death.
Dexamethasone: A corticosteroid that suppresses inflammation by inhibiting phospholipase A2, reducing prostaglandin synthesis.
Dosage:
4 drops into the affected ear twice daily for 7 days.
Administration:
Shake well before use.
Warm the bottle by holding it in your hands for 1–2 minutes.
Lie down with the affected ear facing up.
Instill the prescribed number of drops into the ear canal.
Keep the ear facing up for 1 minute to allow the medication to penetrate.
Interaction:
No significant drug interactions reported with topical otic use.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin, dexamethasone, or any component of the formulation.
Viral infections of the external ear canal, including herpes simplex.
Fungal infections of the external ear canal.
Side Effects:
Common: Ear discomfort, itching, or pain.
Less common: Rash, dizziness, or unusual taste.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus or infant.
Consult a healthcare provider before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Discontinue use if signs of hypersensitivity occur.
Avoid prolonged use to prevent overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms.
Not for injection or ophthalmic use.
