Indications:
Dicaltrol 0.25mcg is indicated for treatment and prevention of calcium deficiency conditions such as secondary hyperparathyroidism in chronic kidney disease, hypocalcemia in patients on dialysis, and metabolic bone diseases like osteomalacia.
Pharmacology:
Calcitriol is the active form of vitamin D3 that increases intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphate, helps regulate calcium homeostasis, and promotes bone mineralization.
Dosage:
Usually prescribed as 0.25 mcg to 0.5 mcg daily, adjusted based on serum calcium levels and physician advice.
Dosage individualized per patient condition.
Administration:
Oral administration with or without food. Take exactly as directed by the physician.
Interaction:
May interact with calcium supplements, thiazide diuretics, digoxin, and magnesium-containing antacids.
Monitor calcium levels to avoid hypercalcemia.
Contraindications:
Hypercalcemia or vitamin D toxicity

Side Effects:
