Indications:
D-Cap 2000 IU is indicated for:

  • Treatment and prevention of vitamin D3 deficiency.

  • As an adjunct to specific therapy for osteoporosis, osteomalacia, hypocalcemia, tetany, and rickets in patients with vitamin D3 deficiency.

Pharmacology:
Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) is a fat-soluble vitamin that, after absorption in the small intestine, is converted in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (calcidiol), and then in the kidneys to the active form, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (calcitriol). Calcitriol binds to vitamin D receptors in various tissues, promoting calcium and phosphate absorption, and maintaining bone health.

Dosage:

  • Adults: 2000 IU (1 capsule) daily, or as directed by a registered physician.

  • Children: Dosage should be determined by a physician based on age and clinical condition.

Administration:
Oral administration with or within 1 hour after a meal. Swallow the capsule whole with water.

Interaction:
Cholecalciferol may interact with:

  • Anticonvulsants: Such as phenytoin and phenobarbital, which can reduce vitamin D effectiveness.

  • Glucocorticoids: May impair vitamin D metabolism.

  • Thiazide diuretics: Can increase the risk of hypercalcemia when taken with vitamin D.

Contraindications:
