Indications:
VORIZOL 200 is indicated for the treatment of invasive fungal infections including invasive aspergillosis, candidemia, esophageal candidiasis, and other serious fungal infections.
Pharmacology:
Voriconazole is a triazole antifungal that inhibits fungal cytochrome P450-dependent enzyme lanosterol 14α-demethylase, disrupting ergosterol synthesis essential for fungal cell membrane integrity, leading to fungal cell death.
Dosage:
Typical dosage is 200 mg every 12 hours orally, adjusted as per severity and patient response. Loading doses may be given initially.
Administration:
Take orally with or without food. Follow physician’s instructions carefully.
Interaction:
Voriconazole interacts with many drugs including rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, warfarin, and cyclosporine. Inform your doctor about all medications.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to voriconazole or other azole antifungals. Use cautiously in patients with liver impairment.
Side Effects:
Visual disturbances, rash, nausea, vomiting, elevated liver enzymes, and rare hepatotoxicity.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not recommended during pregnancy and lactation unless benefit outweighs risk. Consult physician before use.
