Indications:
LIMPET 3 MG is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorders. It helps manage symptoms like hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized thinking.
Pharmacology:
LIMPET contains Paliperidone, the active metabolite of risperidone. It is an atypical antipsychotic that acts by antagonizing dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors, reducing psychotic symptoms and improving mood and cognition.
Dosage & Administration:
The usual starting dose is 3–6 mg once daily, taken preferably in the morning. Dosage may be adjusted based on patient response. Should be swallowed whole with water.
Interaction:
May interact with other CNS depressants, antihypertensive drugs, and medications affecting QT interval. Use cautiously with alcohol and sedatives.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to paliperidone or risperidone. Avoid in patients with severe liver or kidney dysfunction unless monitored.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, drowsiness, dizziness, insomnia, weight gain, and extrapyramidal symptoms. Serious effects may include QT prolongation and neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Paliperidone is excreted in breast milk; breastfeeding should be avoided during treatment.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, a history of seizures, or diabetes. Monitor for signs of suicidal thoughts or behavior, especially during dose changes.
