FERIPON 500 MG is indicated for the treatment and prevention of:
Iron deficiency anemia
Pregnancy-related anemia
Anemia caused by chronic blood loss (e.g., gastrointestinal bleeding, menstruation)
To replenish iron stores in individuals at risk of iron deficiency (e.g., vegetarians, individuals with poor dietary intake)
Ferrous Sulfate is an iron salt that provides elemental iron, which is essential for the production of hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. It is absorbed in the small intestine and incorporated into red blood cells, helping to increase hemoglobin levels and correct iron deficiency.
Adults: The usual dose is 1 tablet (500 mg) once or twice daily, or as prescribed by the physician.
Children: The dose may vary depending on the child’s age and iron requirements, as prescribed by a pediatrician.
Take the tablet with a glass of water, preferably on an empty stomach for better absorption.
Avoid taking with dairy products, tea, or coffee as they can reduce iron absorption.
If stomach upset occurs, it can be taken with food.
Antacids (magnesium, aluminum, or calcium-containing), tetracycline antibiotics, and quinolones can interfere with the absorption of iron and should not be taken at the same time.
Vitamin C can enhance iron absorption, so it is often recommended to take Ferrous Sulfate with a source of Vitamin C (e.g., orange juice).
Levothyroxine, methyldopa, and penicillamine can have interactions with iron supplements. Consult a doctor before combining with any other medications.
Hypersensitivity to Ferrous Sulfate or any component of the tablet
Hemochromatosis (iron overload disorder)
Hemosiderosis (excess iron in tissues)
Active peptic ulcer disease or gastritis
Children under 12 years (unless prescribed by a doctor)
Common: Constipation, nausea, stomach cramps, dark stools, diarrhea
Less common: Vomiting, heartburn, abdominal discomfort
Serious: Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling, and difficulty breathing (very rare)
Pregnancy: Ferrous Sulfate is commonly used during pregnancy to prevent or treat iron deficiency anemia. It is considered safe when used as directed by a healthcare provider.
Lactation: Ferrous Sulfate is excreted in small amounts in breast milk and is generally considered safe for use during breastfeeding.
