Indications:
Management of hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and prevention of cardiovascular events in patients at high risk.
Pharmacology:
Rosuvastatin inhibits the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, reducing cholesterol synthesis in the liver, leading to decreased LDL and triglycerides and increased HDL cholesterol.
Dosage:
Usually administered once daily, 20 mg dose depending on clinical response and lipid levels.
Administration:
Oral use, with or without food. Swallow tablets whole with water.
Interaction:
Potential interactions with cyclosporine, warfarin, fibrates, and certain antivirals. Monitor for myopathy symptoms.
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity, active liver disease, pregnancy, and lactation.
Side Effects:
May cause headache, muscle pain, nausea, abdominal discomfort, and increased liver enzymes.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not recommended; contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
